Thunderstorm in Nance Season

Storm last night twas fierce and long;
Willed my lamp to stay on;
Prayed my friends their homes stay dry
Til the morning, by and by.

A new day dawns, gray and chill
Stars fell down by the mil
Golden orbs, acid and sweet
Heaven’s gift, a tender treat.

So now to reap long nights joy
Nances: of man the soul
Sown by rain’s wet-cheeked tear
In the glory, they’ll appear.

Thanksgiving

The greatest cryings of thanksgiving
Come not from chairs of ease;
But rather broken hearts exclaiming:
“Master, do as you please!”

Those valleys dark, my soul He’s seeing
The grief behind that smile;
His presence, will, and grace me bright’ning:
“Master, tis just awhile.”

Soon, then, caught up to glory flying,
Knees in His presence fall.
Our lips with thanks ne’er stop proclaiming:
“Master, my all in all!”

Death is a Promise

Death is a Promise
That there is another side.
The Earnest of Eternity;
A slim channel between
today and Tomorrow.

Death is a Promise
That full Redemption still waits.
The Great Price has been fully paid;
A blood-soaked settlement.
But Home is yet to come.

Death is a Promise
That there is another side.
They walk through but leave us behind
Our tears sprinkle the point
That marks the Great Divide.

Death is a Promise
That Resurrection will follow.
Corruption forever eschewed
Dazzling Incorruption
Glorious Day of Christ.

Sunset at the beach

Somewhere there is freedom
Somewhere not so far away.
Where worries are not welcome
Nor the burdens of the day

Rainbow hues who need no rain
Fire without a match
Liquid roars but no lion
Glory shakes his gold attached

There’s freedom to get dirty
Freedom to get wet
Where laughter is abundant
And gratitude racks a debt

God’s mercy is abounding
His beauty overwhelms
Until that day we see Him
He paints His face in this realm.

Faerie Love

I’ll bend over backwards
I’ll do what it takes
To hand you the sun
And the moon on a plate.
A few stars on top—
Cherry Betelgeuse will do
It still won’t be enough
For a someone like you.

Life’s Anchor

Though battered on life’s rocky shoals,
The wind a frightful foe,
Waves of fearful height up soar
My anchor firm remains.

The clouds will break in sunshine’s rays
A rainbow’s glory glow
Christ’s mercy there to lift and flow
My anchor—He the Lord.

Missionary

The waiting seemed a small price that day
For what the King had promised to repay
His faithful servant, his duty done
When homeward he his horse had spun
With jewels dancing, a gold crown hung
The great King’s beauties on his tongue
Found at the gate he once had left
A little family no more bereft

The waiting done
A Glorious welcome home

His bags unpacked, treasure droplets fall
From his hands Grand gifts for all,
Oh can it, can it be?
The Splendid King has thought of me?
Who waged no war nor brave could be
But simply said, “I’ll wait patiently here for thee?”

There is no King such as this
Whose servants’ hearts fill with bliss
The very mention of His precious name
Who God for us, man became
Who is the Giver, the All in All
Receives our gifts, so very small
And in His kind and generous way
Always will our love repay.

Babies

New you
You’re new
Sweet little coo
Nary a shoe
Little toes squishing goo.

New you
You’re new
Enjoy the view
Sparkling blue
Beauty from the front pew

New you you’re new
Land of bamboo
And cockatoo
Mexicana through and through

New you
You’re new
Baby brand new
A kiss for you
My little chicky Choo

Wedding anniversary

Beyond that day
We could not see
The August rain a veil
But love flew free

Backwards we glance
The rain now mist
Colored bow of beauty
Love’s arch persists

before the Battle

Billows wild, black the fright
Against white shore do rage
Beneath the cliff a flickering light
Gift of refuge
Hope to spare you
Presence before the soul must engage
That war of Spirit fought
the Ransom bought
forever with innocent blood.

Chase beauty

Chase Beauty.
Through clouds of mosquitos,
In piles of leaves
Storm clouds
And determined weeds:
Chase Beauty.
