It’s a tiny village at the very end of the road. Bordering on the Chumpán River and the southern shore of the Laguna de Términos, Santa Rita is much like any other little place in Campeche. There is one difference though.

For 23 years, Ernesto and Delfina have faithfully shared God’s Word despite enormous trials. They were of the first to settle the town, working to clear virgin land for cattle, collecting rainwater and living by candlelight until electrical lines were installed some eight years later.

As the town grew and they shared the gospel, they saw over 30 people gathered out. They lived in a special fellowship together, truly like the family they were in Christ.

But as the years went by, some fell away, some moved for work, others passed away. Numbers dwindled and still they remained faithful.

Their only son left home at a young age and had very little contact with them over the years. Three years ago they found out he was dying in a hospital in Mexico City at only around 30 years of age. Shattered, they brought their son home again to be buried there. And still, they have remained faithful. We’ve cried together, Delfina and I. Our boys gone, two broken women looking beyond to that better land full only of life and joy.

Meeting place in Santa Rita

For the last several years, Delfina has been very sick. She has cirrhosis and now they have found tumors. So many, her liver is full of them. At times her pain is unbearable. Doctors say there is not much that can be done. And still, their faithfulness to God shines out, a glimmering light in the darkness.

Please pray for Ernesto and Delfina. They have many difficult decisions to make. The road ahead, no matter what course God plans, will not be easy. They need prayer, comfort and love.

They are true pioneers, worthy of admiration, beautiful examples of a sacrificial life devoted completely their Lord, Jesus Christ the same yesterday and today and forever.

  1. Penny,

Thank you for sharing this moving story. I would like to offer some help, I know about an herb that can heal the liver in cirrhosis or liver cancer. I can get it and send it by Estafeta. It’s called cardo Mariano or milk thistle.

Please read the attached information and tell me if it could help her.

Please give kisses to your beautiful children. I dreamed about them last night, I was taking care of the smaller one, but it wasn’t Galilea Persis, it was a boy, a baby boy. So, maybe you are going to have another one… 🙂

    How’s your health?

    Love
